GETTING TO A CASTING FIRST! FIT IT IN!

All models know that castings are the first step to booking!
There are so many models that miss out on amazing opportunities because they do not put their modeling career up front and center in their lives.
This is also usually the reason some models have pretty pictures but never book.

Just today we have a client ask to see a group of requested models for an ongoing job that will work several times a week and pay very nicely.
The down side of the industry is that once they find their girl, that is it, the door is closed, and no one will be seen after they decide.
On this particular job, the client booked the FIRST model that walked in the door and called us to cancel the rest of the models!
Of course you are thinking that is unfair to the other models, but it would also be unfair to ask the models to go to the casting and find out they had already booked and to go home.
For these situations we wish everyone could be booked, but I guess the lesson here is to get there FIRST!
Remember, clients want to get on with their busy schedules, so model casting is just more work for everyone. So, if they find their IT GIRL right away, then their job is done and they can do the next project. This is especially true of FIT modeling castings, they want to get FITTING right away, so finding the perfect FIITTING MODEL is top priority!
I would love your feedback on this subject, have you ever been shut out of a casting because you went late or missed a casting hoping for another casting day? Let us know your thoughts!

We are always excited for your comments and we read everything!

MODELING AGENCIES AND THEIR SPECIALTIES

Since 1997 Peak Models & Talent has been booking models for FIT, PRINT, RUNWAY, CATALOGS, LOOK BOOKS, TV, VIDEOS, AND COMMERCIALS. Over the years I have found that each agency has it's strong points, and of course we fall into the same mold when it comes to what we do best.
The other day I had a photographer asking for a specific type of model for his project. He wanted a woman with no curves at all, straight up and down and about 6 foot tall. What he did not realize is that he should be calling a " high fashion" agency. We are a commercial, agency with lifestyle FIT, PRINT and CATALOG models. our strong points are that we have great people that FIT the clothes, fresh faces and amazing models for CATALOGS and LOOKBOOKS.
Peak Models & Talent also books for RUNWAY, but it is not our only focus. We are so strong with our COMMERCIAL STYLE MODELS that we do not focus on high fashion at all. We are more focused on the products and services that sell to everyone.
When your clients consist of Disney, Target, New Balance, Adidas, Speedo, Nokia, Wells Fargo, Cialis, Bridal companies, Ski companies, Swim companies, and brand names in clothing, it is a nice niche in the modeling business that we fill for our clients.
Our models are able to work with top companies and we love the artistic quality of the high fashion world, but it is not our strongest suit.
I guess when you do something well, stick to that, and do not try to do everything.
The same goes for a model, do not try to be everything to everyone, just figure out what works and do that... if you are a young mom look, go for it and get your soccer mom gear going in your next shoot, if you are a swim suit model, by all means shoot some classy shots that show you are naturally in shape! Just find what works and work it!

WHAT DOES A MODELING OR TALENT AGENT DO FOR YOU?

Working in the modeling and entertainment industry for the past 20 plus years has been quite an education. I have seen many models come into the business completely confused about what an agent actually does for the model.
It seems that once a model signs up with an agent, they think that the hard part is done, and now the bookings just roll on in.
The truth is, the work is just beginning, and now is the time that the models REALLY need to show up with their A game on. The idea that the agent manages your photos, tells you what to wear, how to look, etc is not completely true. Yes when we tell you to go on a casting we try to give you an idea of what the wardrobe calls for, but sometimes it is up to you, since the clients are not always able to give that in a moments notice.
So, it is VITAL that you have your " uniform" ready to go for a last minute casting.
By uniform I mean something that makes you look like a model. To be on the safe side, always wear heels and a sleek black outfit. You will look tall, thin and chic.
I know it might not seem exciting, but it works.
As far as your photos and comp card go, that is more of a management issue. Many models will ask their agents for advice on photos, and email dozens of photos to review, sometimes hundreds. That is really something that you need to edit down with your photographer, and come to your agency with the top 10 that you have honed in on.
Think of it this way, agents are getting jobs, calling clients, casting, booking, and trying to get you booked. So, when you overwhelm the email with every photo you have from your weekend shoot, the agency has to sift through your stuff before they can get down to the clients emails seeking models!
I know, you want your agency to pick what they like, and believe me your agency wants great photos, but not when they have to look at 300 hundred of them, times all the models in the agency...whew...now that is time consuming:)
The job of an agent is not photo editor, it is to find work for you, and get you booked. So next time you think about sending all those photos, just edit it down to your top 10 - I actually usually send the photos right to clients if there are just 3- 4 in an email, so keep that in mind too.
Less is more, and clients will see your photos all alone if you just send a few ...
Thank you for all that you do, and remember to always show up to your castings!
