We all know this business is one of patience, and perseverance, and sometimes complete irony.
At Peak Models & Talent we all know that the tide changes as quickly as the Starbucks cools in your coffee cup!
With so many people in the LA area completing for the same jobs, one has to ask , why is that person booking? What is the secret?
As an agent, I see so many people get frustrated with the business and give up 5 minutes before the miracle, which seems to happen when you least expect it.
For example Claire is one of the models that we have had a harder time booking, only because she is smaller than some of the sizes our clients have been calling for recently.
But, Claire has a commitment to herself and the process, and it paid off.
Claire just booked an ADIDAS commercial this week! The whole job booked quickly, and once Claire was booked, she was called to a fitting at the drop of a hat, and had no problem with going.
She re arranged her day and made it happen, and so ADIDAS was lucky to have someone on her game to represent their company.
Congratulations Claire!
Keep in mind that Claire is newer with PEAK, so hang in there people, there are jobs every day, and even if we do not call you, you can be assured that we are SUBMITTING you EVERY DAY!
So make sure to keep us posted if you leave town or get a job etc.

Ok to say that we are swamped is an understatement. My question is, what is going on out there with some of the models? What are you all doing this week? We have had casting after casting, and direct requests for nice BIG MONEY clients, and I am getting a laundry list of excuses and procrastination!
So, yes it is rainy and wet and uck, but come on, if you are someone that is having trouble paying your rent and you did not show up to these castings, then we need to talk.
I hate to be the bad guy here, but I am really surprised that some people would miss HIGH PAYING jobs!?!?! Am I missing something?
Let's review,
Client seeking fit model for ongoing fit, pay is $2500.00 per week on average. Some models were " not sure" if they wanted to go. really surprise me, they talked themselves out of the audition. YES, that is right, they decided for themselves that they did not " think" they looked good and passed up a huge opportunity. Oh and did I mention that there was also a RUNWAY job that pays $150.00 per hour and the shows usually work about 4 hours?
Ok call me old school, but when I modeled I went to EVERYTHING!
I was always surprised when models would flake out or just blow it off to go to lunch or shop.
I was always happy to go and BOOK the jobs these models were basically handing over to me.
I guess I just want the best for the agency, and the best for our models, so when the models talk themselves out of opportunities, I am completely surprised and wish I could fast forward and show them what it is like to have a steady client. I guess that is why they call it a CASTING, you only get CAST if you show up. And we only book you if you show up, and that is also why we are always busy casting.
The moral of the story is that this is the year we need to step up our game, so let's get these CASTINGS and turn them into BOOKINGS! :))

The goal of every model is to get booked. If you are a model, it is important that you look like a model even when you are not working. When you go on castings, you should always look your absolute best, shich includes manicured nails and toes, hair and make up done. Do not assume that your photos will speak for themselves. Clients want to see that you look great all of the time. They do not want to take a chance and book a girl that looks like she rolled out of bed.

Whether you are a swimsuit model, lingerie model, fashion model, print model, fitness model, perfect 10 model, whatever type of fashion model you feel you best represent you must always look like a perfect 10 model. Beautiful models are expected to look great.

Remember you are a walking advertisement for YOU!!!

As many of you know, LA Casting is one of the most utilized tools out there for agencies and casting agents in Los Angeles. It's ideal for finding models who fit specific projects and who will flourish in certain roles. Unfortunately in order to get auditions for these rolls a little bit of time and money is involved to really make your LA Casting profile pop! Let's start with photographs:

Your premiere photo is the first thing that a casting agent sees when selecting people for auditions. You must have a clear, professional and commercial looking headshot as your premiere photo. PEAK uploads your initial premiere photo when you are signed to the agency but if the photos you provided us with are outdated, blurry, or unprofessional you may want to consider getting new photos taken and uploading a new premiere photo on your own. Yes, this costs money, but what's $50 if you get booked on a $4,000 job? Having an eye catching, warm and personable photo is not only what will grab peoples' attention, it is what will get you booked.

Additional photos are completely optional however if you would like to be submitted for hand modeling, foot modeling, hair modeling etc. it is in your best interest to post additional photos to your account showcasing these features. There have been several instances where a model is very interested in doing specialized modeling but was not considered for an audition because we did not have adequate photos of their specialty. Also you must notify the agency if you are experienced or would like to be submitted for specialty jobs, otherwise you may be overlooked!

Sports photos, as well as a variety of different looks will also significantly increase your chances of getting auditions for certain jobs. Many times the casting agent will ask for athletes who are experienced in their sport and without notification in your LA Casting account, or a photo to back up your skills you may miss out on being asked to audition.
And don't forget to mark on your resume that you have a VALID PASSPORT!!!

If you love modeling or acting and you are interested in pursuing it at an expert level it's important to realize that there will be investments. The time to update your information and the cost of uploading additional photos could mean the difference between booking a job and never even being considered for an audition. As with any job, there will always be sacrifices, but if you put in the hard work and you are dedicated the ends will almost always justify the means!

Fitness Infomercials!

We all know how hard it is to get copies of the photos and commercials that we shoot.
But, from time to time we get lucky and track down the work that our models and talent have performed. In this video our model Cheryl was nice enough to send a copy of the fitness video shot for "Beagle" which makes a pedometer.
Check out the link below to see Cheryl in action!
The clients booked with Peak Models & Talent and as you can see everyone looks like they are having a great time! See, work can be fun!

Travel can be equated to freedom. Freedom to go and do and see things that are new and exciting.
Learning about other people and cultures can be exciting and invigorating, feeding our souls with much needed insight into other peoples worlds. Imagine now if you were to get paid while on your travels!
Imagine staying in a nice hotel, sleeping on crisp sheets, waking up to shoot early in the morning.
It is possible and it happens all of the time!!!
The difference between the people that get submitted for jobs that travel is one document.
Lately we have had bookings in South America, China, Mexico and even Japan.
The clients will ask us only to submit models with passports, so here is your challenge, do you have a valid passport? Are you ready to hop on a plane tomorrow if need be?
If not, it is time to get your game face on and head on over to the federal building in Westwood and get that ever fantastic passport photo taken. Just think, it can't be worse than your drivers license right? LOL An investment in your passport could pay off in spades!!!
Remember, these little blogs are meant to inspire you to do what you need to do to be available to book.
Right now there are jobs on the breakdowns and LA casting that only want to see talent with passports. So, if you have one, let me know and I will submit you accordingly.
Until then, I hope you enjoy reading my blogs as much as I enjoy writing them.

Did you go to your casting looking your best today?
Did you have any chipped finger nail polish? Did you wash your hair or did you just throw on a baseball cap and figure your book would do the talking?
Well, here is a little something a casting director sent me the other day regarding casting in general.
I thought it was really interesting and I thought I would pass it on since it is spot on regarding what models need to be aware of when going on castings.....

"As a casting director... I meet with so many models.... Isit with the client next to me and meet each model... and many of the models are very beautiful.... and Iwant to book them.... but the client asks to see their zed cards, or their portfolios... and many of them dont have it... and the client says thank you, next...?!

they get upset when models are unprepared... some models come to castings with chipping nail polish... client looks at their nails and says wow... are you serious? you're a model and you cant take care of your nails when meeting with a potential client?"

Now I am sure no one from PEAK MODELS & TALENT would ever show up unprepared or skip the basic grooming, but can you imagine how easy it is for a client to disregard you?
Every casting is a JOB INTERVIEW, so when you go, keep that in mind.
Dress to impress, top of your game, have your book and a comp card with PEAK LOGO clearly showing for booking purposes.
Let your light shine! There is a Super Model in all of you!

Ok, 2010 is here, so what does that mean?
It means that 2009 is OVER!!!
That's right, whatever 2009 brought to your life can either be built upon or let go, either way it is a whole new game.
The question is, are you in?
If this is your year, what steps are you going to take to increase the abundance in your life?
What commitments will you make to yourself? What can you do today to advance your career in 2010?
Whatever you need to do, and only you know what that is, it's time to start doing.
Need photos? Book a photographer.
Need a new portfolio that can hold your new photos? Call the office.
Need to start booking? Go to your castings!
Whatever you need to do, this is your year....
We are all in this together, so remember, we want you to succeed.
Let's make 2010 a year of abundance!

The holidays are such a great time of year, everyone seems to be in a festive mood, the new year is on the horizon, and hopes are high. We all have the opportunity to reach outside of ourselves and think of others, either family, friends, or even complete strangers in need. It is one of the best times of the year to reach out and touch someone.
Being out of your element can also give you a chance to engage with new experiences and people.
One of the best lessons I have learned this holiday season and will take with me into the new year is to take cared of myself.
On my flight out of LA, I watched the video where they show the oxygen masks drop and tell you to " put your mask on first" before helping others. I could not help think that I would have a problem with this in my own life being the mother of three little boys. I could not imagine putting my mask on first and then helping them.
After being out of my element for a couple of weeks, I did however begin to understand that sometimes you have to take care of yourself first to be available to help others.
Being a mom it is my nature to always take care of everyone first at the expense of myself.
I have come to see how damaging this can be. When you are on everyone else's schedule, it is important to find the little things that make you feel good, even if it is as small as a cup of coffee, get your coffee. Whatever it is for you, whatever little ritual you need in your life, going to the gym, taking a jog, meditation, eating organic, getting a Starbucks, just make sure it is a healthy habit, and do not feel like you have to give up yourself when you are out of your element.
Staying true to yourself is your own personal self care, and no one is going to do it for you.
