Beauty Secrets from a Peak Model!

Models write me letter on a regular basis, and I thought I would start to share some of the letter that I feel are important to everyone...

Hi Natasha,

I have some stuff that I think might be appropriate and/or helpful for the Peak Models and Talent Blog.  I hope so at least!

I wanted to let you and all the talent represented by Peak and anyone else who reads the blog know about a woman named Paula Begoun.  (Otherwise known as the "Cosmetics Cop").  I first learned about her years ago when a family member gave me one of her books entitled "The Beauty Bible".  She has also written other books such as "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter without Me" and "Blue Eyeshadow Should Be Illegal".

Here is the reason I absolutely LOOOOOVE Paula: She debunks the myths surrounding the cosmetics and skincare industries.  She debunks the myths about how our skin actually works and what it needs to be healthy and addresses the specific needs of different skin types. She will tell you exactly what ingredients do what in that overpriced $200 jar of department store eye cream.  Then she will tell you about a drugstore brand that has the SAME ingredients that sells for $12.  She explains what BHA's are and how they are different from AHA's.  She explains what antioxidants are and why they are good for our skin.  She stresses the ABSOLUTE IMPORTANCE of wearing sunblock DAILY on our faces as it is the #1 way to prevent wrinkles.  Her books and her website and her thousands of product reviews are chock full of helpful, insightful, accurate and easy-to-understand information.

The cosmetics/skincare industries do not like her. =)

I first looked to her to understand my skin type and its needs and then looked at product reviews and chose the products to use based on her information.  Most recently, however, I started using her veryown skincare line, that is VERY reasonably priced and really works.  There are no unnecessary chemicals, artificial colors or fillers in her products and nothing is tested on animals.  With her amazing knowledge and insight into what ingredients do what for our skin, I trust her products implicitly.  Currently they are only available online.  However, I have probably only paid full price for her products a few times, because most of the time there is some kind of deal going on: either a percentage off the total, or free shipping, or certain products being deeply discounted.   The VERY BEST PART, is that all of her products come in sample sizes for around $1, so if you want to try a new product without committing to buying the full size, you can just buy a few samples.  Even better news, is that if you do order a product and don't like it, you can send it back for a refund.  Shipping is VERY fast and the products often arrive sooner that the quoted time frame. She also includes reviews (both positive and negative) from consumers, so you can read other people's opinions of her products before you buy them.

Paula Begoun is basically the "Consumer Reports" of the skincare and cosmetics industry. I have returned to her books and her website countless times for helpful information and advice and since I have been using her products, my skin has been healthy, blemish free and glowing.

Whether or not anyone who reads this will decide to use her products, they will at least find her information about the products they are already using to be helpful.  For anyone who cares about how to take care of their skin and wants to know what products actually work and which ones carry the best value, her books are absolutely necessary!!!  I advise anyone who is interested in this information to simply do a google search for her name, buy her books from Amazon or start with her website.  If you don't want to buy a book, perhaps you can check it out from the library.

Again, her name is PAULA BEGOUN.

I hope someone finds this information helpful!

Best to everyone at Peak!

So, you want to send your photos to an agent right? Well, what to send is really quite important. Recently we had an actor email us photos that he thought were funny and "attention getting" He got our attention, but it was not the outcome he had wished for.
You see, our friends decided to send an email with his private parts mentioned, along with photos of his rear end in a lewd pose. Of course to him this is completely acceptable, but to the people he wants to impress, he really just looks rude.

Of course we see every submission, and because we take the time to review peoples photos, we would expect the decency of the models not to send nudes or crude photos.

So, that's it, keep in mind that your submission should be no more than 2 photos, along with height, sizes and contact information.
Keep it simple!

New Model Photos?

What kind of photos should I take for my comp card?" We recommend you always look your age in your photos. A great headshot that brings out your eyes is always a must. Then you can do anywhere from 3-6 on the back of the card. Definitely make sure to have a swimsuit or lingerie (if you are shopping yourself in that market) an active shot (running or tennis or basketball....any sporty picture will work). Casual trendy shot is also a must. Then maybe you in a prom dress (mostly pertains to junior girls) or you in a business suit. Also if you are in that young mom stage of life a sort of young mom picture or wholesome family oriented individual photo is great. NO HIGH FASHION OR CAKED ON MAKEUP:)

Happy Birthday to You!

Birthdays, they are the right of passage for every person on the planet. They are like taxes too, you know they are coming, the question is how will you handle it?
Well, as an agent, I am always surprised when a model or actor that is BOOKED for WORK tells me that they are not able to do the job because it is their BIRTHDAY!! What??
Let's look at that again, when did your birthday get deemed a national holiday? Seriously, can I tell you how many birthdays I was on a plane going to a booking, shooting a catalog, doing fittings, etc. I really thought about this concept because part of my mind wanted to be happy that people celebrate the miracle of their life, but then the ever responsible, success driven side of me thought, " oh this is why some people make it and some people don't" .

Life is about choices, you either choose to be in the game, or you choose to party and goof off while the rest of us get on with our lives. Just don't ever let me hear you complain that you don't have any money, or you don't know why you never get called for auditions ad castings anymore. This is where the best of the best will celebrate, but keep their commitments as well.
You can do both, and you do not have to trash yourself to have a good time, unless of course you want to fail in this industry completely, and have lost all credibility with your agency.

Why agents drop talent and models...

So, I was at a party the other night with a mixed crowd of actors.

One that I used to represent before he moved on due to work conflicts,( he had to get a full time job)

I was always surprised that this guy did not book, or even get callbacks when I represented him, since he is really funny and talented.

But then as if the lights went on in the room, I saw clearly why this person will never, and I mean never make it in this business.

I also felt incredibly grateful to not be associated with someone who treats his business the way he does.

OF course this person has no idea that what he said was probably the most damaging thing he has been doing to his career, and guess what? HE is still walking around surprised that he never " made it" and cannot figure out why.

Some of you are probably thinking, " so why don't you tell him?" And seriously if I thought it would help, I would, but in this case, he is in his own way and that will never change, you see his problem is not that he lacks talent or ability, what he lacks is gratitude. And gratitude is an inside job.

Gratitude that he has an agent, gratitude that his agent is submitting him, gratitude that he has a car, gratitude that he is healthy, gratitude that he is getting castings, gratitude that he has the abilities to be in a business that most would do anything to get a glimpse into.

But here is what I heard that night after one of our talent announced that he had to leave early to get his rest since Peak Models & Talent had booked him on a commerical for the next day. Once our friend that lacks gratitude heard that the other man had booked a job, he looked wistfully off into the corner with his envy out on his sleeve. As the man left the party the one that remained, our ungrateful friend decided that this would be a good time to rant about how he hates going to castings, especially when they are in Santa Monica and other locations that are not " convenient" for this person.

Of course, I was THRILLED not to be his agent when I heard his attitude, and it all became very clear that this is why he will forever be stuck with a job he hates, and miss the opportunities that have been handed to him.

If you are reading this and thinking that you are dreading a casting or meeting, you should think again, and get grateful that you are in the business at all, and if you still don't want to go, then it is time to find something else to do.

What I feel lands me my jobs

First off I know that I am very blessed with good support. I recognize and always thank key people in my life when I can. People appreciate kindness and relationship is key in this business. Also I discovered what gets me remembered and I work with the abilites that God has given me. My last name is cha, so as lame as it sound when I go into auditions I say hi, my name is Christina Cha Cha Cha! People remember because I add something to my personality that make me memorable. Everyone goes oh theres the cha cha girl, It might sound lame but it woks for me. I am not tall or skinny or the most beautiful girl in the room but I have a good attitude and I know what is marketable about me. Ask friends and family members, as well as people that just meet you what do you notice about me the most. People tell me that its my sparkle. So I convey that in my pictures and when I work a room I show them this sparkle and I push it to the 10th degree. Work with your God given assets, he made you that way for his purpose. Find out what that is, Own it, Work it, and Sell it! But first do your homework and discover what that is!

The importance of manners goes along way not only in business but in life. I really believe good things happen to good people. If people are not treating your right, stealing from you, or taking advantage of you, then they will not be blessed in the long run. When I book a job I send a thank you not or let them know I am greatful. When I take pictures with a photographer I give them a Bonsai tree as a thank you gift. I try to give a thank you card to my agents at least once a year to maintain our relationship and let them know I am thinking of them. When your agent sends you out to a great audition thank them and let them know what you think of what the outcome was. When you go to a production office get the cards and the name off all the people you interacted with and send them a thank you card. I know of a guy that was waiting for an audition and he asked if he could grab some Starbucks because there was some hold up during casting. Everyone was getting upset at the casting assistant because they had to wait hours just too see the cd. He had a good attitude and asked her if she wanted a drink and got one for her. Guess who was first too see the cd when he came back with her coffee. Let't not forget these people that we are meeting are people with feelings and lives, treat them with respect and kindness and someone upstairs will rewards you in the future..
