Professionalism, I am always 20 minutes early. I smile, I try not to complain and I help when I can. People remember and they keep you in mind for future projects. I heard a story about a guy who landed a major agent because when he dropped off his headshot he helped a mover move the couch in the agency office.. little did he know that was the agent he called him back and landed a fabulous agent. Kindness goes along ways.

I NEED YOUR VOUCHERS!!!!
just wanted to touch base with you regarding the vouchers system.
We book with clients, however it is our policy that we have a signed voucher from every model for every booking.
This is not optional, as the clients are not as organized and in the past have refused to pay models that do not have vouchers. For us then it turns into a “ he said , she said” issue.
For one model that forgot her voucher it took over 6 months to get her paid. I finally had to call the owner and beg to get her paid, stating that they know that I am legit, and would not lie.
I can assure you that I do not have the time to do that when there is a system in place, with filling out the vouchers.
Many times the designers book models and do not tell the owners, and thus they need proof of work.
It is also for tax purposes, as an independent contractor it is imperative that you keep written records of your modeling work via vouchers in case you ever get audited.
Believe me, I was audited back when I was modeling, and they will require all of your paperwork to be accounted for to avoid tax issues.
Please let us know if you need more vouchers, it is really imperative that we have your vouchers for accounting purposes, otherwise it will just hold up the payment process.
This is all in the paperwork that you filled out. I do not know how other agencies do their business, but please for my sanity send in a voucher J

Models be careful out there!
I like to pride myself on giving people the benefit of the doubt when meeting them. I assume the best, just as I would hope they would assume of me. I have recently discovered that in the modeling world, this rule of thumb might need to be ruled out.
I've been modeling for about 16 years and about a year ago, I started my modeling career back up again after a baby break. A model friend gave me a few contacts to help rebuild my book and get me started. One of the photographer contacts was very willing to refer me to some big names, one of which owned a very reputable high fashion magazine. I immediately made contact. I will refer to him as Ron in this blog.
Over the course of the year, I have been in contact with Ron about certain projects, endevors etc., that he and I (separately) have been involved in all the while hoping to catch his interest for his magazine. All contact was online via myspace and facebook and the occasional quick IM. All very formal. All very professional. All very...normal.
Finally he was ready to take me serious as a model. He booked me to walk in his fashion show for LA Fashion Week. I didn't end up walking for reasons far too boring to mention but I did go and help him run his show. I coordinate fashion shows and other events as well so for me this was a huge honor.
So the day came and went smoothly. We met. He seemed very sweet and genuine. I did my job and left.
A few days later, he offered me a gig modeling his clothing line, which I wasn't able to take, but I thought it was my big break and maybe, finally, my way into his magazine.
Three days later, I was walking in another fashion show and ran into his ex-girlfriend and another model who were talking about him. They didn't realize I was listening or even that I knew him. As the conversation went on, I realized he was harrassing the model and trash talking her online to other people. She was begging his ex to speak to him on her behalf. The ex later explained that he already had a police record for violently kidnapping her. Yikes. I never let on that I knew him.
Needless to say, I dropped all contact with Ron and will avoid any further contact with him. I think it is a good rule of thumb that when you are working with people in this industry, especially when not agency referred, to err on the side of caution. Don't trust blindly just because they have credits, a huge following, experience or a big fashion world name.
To avoid situations like this one shared by one of our models, never book directly with anyone even if you meet them under " normal" circumstances, your agency is there to help you, and on your own, you are just that, " on your own", and if anything goes wrong, you will have to figure it out on your own, avoid these problems by booking with your agency!

KEEPING UP WITH YOUR AGENT
Updates, update your info, your look and even classes and workshops you are taking and let your agent know what you are doing! COMMUNICATION is KEY!! My problem is that I overcommuncate, maby your porblem is that you don't COMMUNICATE enough. Your agents have 500 emails a day, yes I thought the same thing they only know you! Thats what I thought too! Let's get off our self centered model planet and realize the competions is fierce. When they ask you for picutres do it that week. When you go to new classes let them know what you are doing.
